Elbow and Knee Strikes

Put an Attacker Down Hard!
I have reviewed many deterrents for stopping attackers, I thought I’d add a little self defense – for those who might laugh at pepper spray and slap your new stun gun right out of your hand!
We all can’t carry a pistol, knife, steel baton or stun baton. Most people select a small canister of pepper spray, or a stun gun and feel much safer if they’re confronted by an assailant while going about their business. The truth is, as I mentioned – there are a lot of people in the streets who will walk right through that wall of spray, and be happy to shock you with your own stun gun. Acknowledge that truth and accept it – someday you may have to be an “elite” sprinter, or be ready to “throw down” and face your enemy with an all out physical attack, designed to put them down and out!
There is a martial art called Muay Thai that is extremely easy to learn. I’m not talking about training for MMA fighting but the basics of Muay Thai kick boxing are very straightforward and can be learned in just a short time. There was a time when nobody had heard of Thai Boxing. I was already an avid practitioner. I learned the outline of the system in two days from a qualified teacher and progressed enough to use it with deadly consequences – in “one summer” of rigorous 3 day per week, training sessions. My advantage was that I’d been a black belt in Okinwan karate for 10 yrs. – so I had a little bit of a “head” for picking up new things.
I loved the Muay Thai way of “attacking the attack” – being much like Escrima in that regard. I had been in a mode of launching attacks and countering them – but WOW – this was way Hard Core! The elbows, knees and shins are conditioned (numbed), to strike full power blows without feeling pain, by striking Thai pads and heavy bags with these blows continuously, at full power. I had never experienced that kind of power in my life. My teeth would actually shake in their sockets while holding the Thai Pads – solid kicks and knees rocked me off my stance completely. I’m not sure which was harder – striking the pads or holding them! So then, techniques like locks and throws aren’t what I want to talk about. Let’s talk about knees, elbows and counter-strikes.
Chances are that a lady or man, who are not fighters or have never trained to fight – will think “I can’t do that” – but I reply “Oh yes you CAN! In fact with some pads, a training partner (not 100% necessary with a heavy bag) and a video tape / DVD from Master Chai Sirisute or another top shelf Thai Boxing Master, and you’re ready to begin your Thai Boxing training.
In most cases of intended rape, date rape, or simply being shoved around – the attacker will almost always give you the opportunity to “tie him up”. For instance – a guy follows you through a parking lot to your car, and has been “hitting on you” all the way there. Sound familiar ladies? All of a sudden he physically grabs you by the neck, collar or shoulders and makes an attempt to force you into your car, into another vehicle, or a nearby hidden spot. He’s in control!
With proper training of elbows, knees, and shins – you can take him OUT – in a split second. He uses his weapons to control you but leaves yours “open for business”. You retaliate by grabbing him back and pulling him into your knee which is driving up from the ground and into his gut or groin – repeat as necessary. That will take the starch out of an opponent in a second or two. Release your counter-grab with one hand and use that arm to launch a powerful elbow shot to the attacker’s head. Fight’s over!
A drunk follows you to your car and won’t keep his hands to himself? Depending on how far he is away – just smash him in the groin with one of your feet – a knee or an elbow shot. Sound simple? It is! Really it is, and with a very limited amount of training time, and the right frame of mind – you can fight for your life and survive! Let me enclose a couple of links to good sources to search for a Muay Thai training tape / DVDs. Use them! Ok? Muay Thai Basics and another. Good luck “swinging shins”!
