Stun Gun Fatalities Rise…Part V

The more I read, the more links that I follow in my own little “Taser witch hunt”, the more I am exposed to the ongoing lists, (we’re talking international), of injury (A.K.A. death) to alleged “perps” at the hands of law enforcement officers. (judgments of officer’s intent reserved for final post)

I found an amazing piece that I recommend to all at WFTV.com.

WFTV.com – News Of The Strange – Sheriff Gets Tasered To Show He Supports Weapon

The article cites: “Ten percent of the nation’s Taser-related deaths have been in Central Florida. Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary is standing by his department’s use of the weapon and, to show his support, he was tasered early Thursday evening.”

Well this guy did it and I must say he was not a perfect example of “glowing health” either. You have to check this out! The above link will take you to the page and you can watch Sheriff Beary get Tasered and stand right back up and claim he was perfectly fine within 5 seconds. He gave a few plugs about it being “more humane” and despite his claims that he was feeling “normal” (who defines what “normal” feels like?), he sure didn’t have a lot on his mind, as his remarks were slightly dis-jointed…LOL!!

Laudably, Sheriff Beary joins critics who are calling for better training for officers to immediately identify dangerous medical situations, something many are not trained to do. This enlightened attitude could mean life or death to many “amped up”, upset, exhausted, alleged “perps” who display adverse or even fatal symptoms to a “TRAINED OFFICER”!

Good job Sheriff Beary!

Law enforcement officials say Tasers are much safer than batons, pepper spray or bullets.

“Whenever you’re using those kinds of tools, somebody’s going to be injured, either the officer or the individual they’re trying to secure,” Sgt. Brian Gilliam, Orlando Police was quoted as saying.

I agree with Sgt. Gilliam regarding his remark that when these tools are used, someone is going to get injured. But, proper use of pepper spray or a baton carries ZERO risk of death. What would you say to that?

I think the possibility of death is less desirable than burning eyes and skin for a short while (yup, I’ve been tear gassed) or a bruise on the back of the thigh. Nope, I’ll take a non-sadistic cop, skilled with a baton smacking me across the back of my legs, or a face full of pepper spray any time, over a Taser shot…thank you very much!
