Personal Alarms as Crime Deterrents

Mace Personal Alarm

Personal alarms will give you an edge in thwarting assailants.  Muggers, robbers and rapists don’t want to have attention drawn to themselves.  With a Mace Sports Strobe Alarm, you’ll do just that.  To activate the alarm, remove the pin from the top of the unit to activate a “loud” 130 decibel blast and a flashing strobe light!

There’s a button on the side of this unit which allows the strobe light to be deactivated, to use the unit as a flashlight. The Mace Sports Strobe personal alarm has an attachment which allows it to be used as a window or door alarm.  Mace is one of the most trusted names in security products.  Their personal alarm is no different.  For well under $20 your wife, daughter or girlfriend should have one, don’t you think?

Stun Guns for Self Defense

Jul 27
2010
This country is experiencing record highs in unemployment.  The numbers do and don’t correlate to a rise in violent crime as we’ll see.  The United States has 11,877,218 crimes (topping the list of all countries).  That is not to say we’re becoming more violent.

Actually, crime is declining compared to previous years.  Analysts are stumped as to how, despite a sour economy, there are less crimes in 2010 as in previous years (to date).  In his book “Why Crime Rates Fell,” John Conklin, a Tufts University Sociologist, has concluded that the answer is simple.  There are more 1/2 million more people in Prison than ever before.  Is the answer that simple?  Probably not, but stricter laws and stiffer sentences are a good deterrent.

We are martial artists here at Crime-Information.com and never take lightly, facts like an increase in States issuing conceal carry permits for handguns, self defense awareness and martial arts based training and seminars are doing their part as well.

We strive in our online stores to sell the most effective self defense deterrents like stun guns, Mace and pepper spray play a significant role as well.  We are always available to offer expert advice as well.  We don’t just sell the stuff from our online outlets, we use the products and even test them on ourselves.  Yup, you heard me right.  I’m a 6th Dan in Shorin Ryu karate and schooled in other martial disciplines as well, but we learn and teach that one should try and use anything for a weapon when needed.

I’ve been Maced and stunned on several occasions and my partners too, it’s never a pleasant experience, but I can talk to someone on the phone or via email and give them recommendations on each product, it’s philosophy of use and what’s best for their situation.

Today I spoke to a gentleman about Runt stun guns.  In particular for self defense use, ease of upkeep and reliability, the Runt 4.5 million volt rechargeable stun gun.  This model has a lifetime guarantee and no problem with replacing batteries.  Just recharge one as needed and you’re good to go.  My experience is that most stun guns have a great battery life but if you never want to buy them again, the Runt 4.5 million volt rechargeable stun gun is what you want.

Mace Pepper Gel – Best Defense Spray Deterrent

Mace Pepper Gel

Mace Pepper Gel

I have to make this brief since an injury to my leg has caused swelling that can only be relieved by lying back with my leg propped up.  Nothing serious but very necessary.

I want to encourage those who may read this post and don’t own firearms to protect themselves and their home by using Mace Pepper Gel.  This is the best defense spray product on the market today.

Why do I say this and how can I back up this claim?  Well, Mace is an internationally known brand who’s products and reputation has withstood the test of time.  Their latest gel spray – available in regular (7 one second bursts) and large size (13 one second bursts) shoots a gel with great force, up to 18 feet, with pinpoint accuracy.  It only affects the person who is struck by the gel, which sticks like glue and rubbing it only works the OC pepper deeper into the skin, increasing the burn.

Furthermore, Mace pepper gel releases no ambient particles into the air which is a huge plus.  It can be fired in a car, an apartment and even a hospital safely with no harmful gas left floating in the air.  This stuff is the bomb!  My wife and daughter carry Mace pepper gel exclusively, as well as anyone who asks me which type of defense spray to purchase.

If someone broke into my house or apartment and I owned no firearm, I would opt for pepper gel and a 3 or 4 cell Mag-Lite for illumination, doubling as an impact device to be used after I plastered the burglar with pepper gel and seriously impaired his vision and ability to harm me.

Electronic Child Monitor – Proximity Alarm

Jun 05
2010
Every day we see children that have come up missing, runaways and some that have been kidnapped.  Admittedly, many of these are a result of poor parental or caregiver supervision but in other cases the disappearance of a child right can occur right under our noses!

Our kids are trusting, inquisitive and full of energy.  It can be a real job to keep our eyes on an energetic child bent on exploration.  As parents we are well advised to take every precaution available to insure their safety and well-being.  Now it’s easier to keep tabs on our children with the latest technology of a wireless child proximity alarm monitor that’s adjustable and allows you to pre-set a distance barrier from 6 to 30 feet.

The child wears a cartoon shaped button / badge, either visible or hidden, that contains a micro-chip sending a signal to the parent’s or caregiver’s receiver.  The second the child reaches the pre-set distance the alarm goes off and the alarm sounds on your receiver letting you know your child is straying.  These monitors come with rotating channels so that if more than one of the units is in use nearby, the correct transmitter on your child will alert you and not from the interference of any other unit in use nearby.

Priced under $25,  a child monitor - proximity alarm offers a lot of peace of mind and allows you to rest a bit easier, in the knowledge that you’ll know where your child is at every moment.

14 Year Old Boy Arrested For Facsimile Weapon

Mar 08
2010

A boy’s family is suing their local City and Police Department for more than $15,000. The city has yet to file an answer to the complaint.

Airsoft guns, according to the complaint, which had orange tips on the muzzles, were left on the house’s porch, and a youth and his friends were in the dwelling when police arrived. The lawsuit claims that the police forced the unarmed youths to crawl toward them and then still arrested the kids after discovering that the Airsoft guns were toys. It also accuses the officers of failing to read them their Miranda rights and being verbally abusive toward the boy’s parents.

The lawsuit accuses the police of violating the 4th and 14th amendments of the U.S. Constitution when they responded to the home where the 14 yr. old, named in the lawsuit, and friends were shooting Airsoft guns at soda cans in November 2008. Those amendments establish the foundations for probable cause and due process.

It’s not clear from court records how police were summoned to a home, but according to the report, they responded with several police cruisers and surrounded the home with weapons drawn. Allegedly, police officers told the family a caller reported seeing an armed man wearing camo shorts and carrying a rifle along the road.

Our society has been plagued with armed violence. This is a touchy case in my opinion. All of the facts are not present. Police haven’t weighed in their side of the events yet. There are many questions that are still unanswered.

The police officers could have given the boys and the parents a warning about parental supervision while using the air guns, rather than toting them down a public street. Parents are extremely protective of their kids and this is an overly litigated country as well.

I suppose that we’ll just have to keep our eye on this case and let you know the outcome and the particulars after it has been settled.

Two Men Beat Up Grandmother

Oct 07
2009

According to sources, two Utah brothers in their early 20’s were pleaded guilty this week for beating up their Grandmother.

This evil duo, who claimed they were grief stricken over the recent drug overdose death of their mother, entered her home and found the elderly lady in the bathroom and attacked her.

One threw a bottle of shampoo and another of baby powder at her, then punched her in the face and pushed her, causing her to fall into the bathtub and hit her head. He then proceeded to urinate on her and left the bathroom and smashed a living room cabinet.

As the elderly woman exited the bathroom, the other brother shoved her and hit her again and then urinated on her clothing and punched holes in the wall.

Michael and Christopher Hansen of Salt Lake City Utah, plea bargained from felony charges to a guilty plea on three misdemeanor charges.

Apparently the defense attorney tried to arrange a bail reduction but the judge denied this, claiming that “they pose a danger to the victim and the community.”

We’ll see what sort of sentence they receive for their heinous actions.

Like a loving grandmother the beaten woman said “I just want Chris and Michael to know that I love them and I’m sorry about what happened.”

The community is infuriated as well as many others including this author, while some “do-gooders” are recommending a need for counseling and family issues being a cause – alluding to the recent overdose death of their mother. Is this justice?

Boy Convicted of Shooting Police Officer

Sep 09
2009

A jury recently convicted a 15 year old youth of shooting a Rochester policeman in the head. The defense claimed that a masked gunman was the culprit.

On Friday, a jury found Tyquan Rivera guilty of assault and attempted murder. He’ll face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. His sentencing is set for 10/16/2009.

Rochester NY prosecutors said that Rivera, who was 14 at the time of the shooting, was aiming for another police officer but hit Officer Anthony DiPonzio. Rivera had been questioned about marijuana sales near his home.

Tyquan Rivera testified that a stranger in a ski mask shot the police officer, and then gave him the rifle and told him to hide it for him.

Defense counsel Culver Barr says Rivera didn’t have much hope for a finding of “not guilty.” Jurors in this case deliberated for nine hours.

I have no pity for this youth, only for the Police Officer, who straps on his gear each day and goes out into the streets to “Protect and Serve.”

Gangs and drug related violence are on the rise.  Where are the parents?  What is the solution?  Legalization of pot?  More Police?  Comments are welcome.

Another Serial Killer On The Loose?

Aug 16
2009

Is a serial killer murdering black women in Rocky Mount NC.?

UPDATE 08/15/09. George Cook of “Let’s Talk Honestly” interviews reporter Mike Hixenbaugh of the Rocky Mount Telegram, the reporter covering the case for the local paper.  They discuss:

“How the police are handling the case”

“Is race a factor?”

“How the locals in Rocky Mount feel”

“The overall lack of news coverage”

“The current status of the case”

“How Nancy Grace and Fox News both bumped stories about the murders, and more.

Mr. Cook has done a fine job on covering this case and we at Crime-Information.com applaud his efforts at getting to the bottom of things.

It’s our opinion that this is most definitely that work of a serial killer.  Our first impression, given some facts in a television snippet, was that this would be an easy case to solve – a “no brainer.”  Why the delays in arrests or making this “high profile” news?

We encourage you to read the full story on “Let’s Talk Honestly” and be sure to listen to the interview.  Why isn’t this crime being given the attention it deserves!

Terrorists to Live in Michigan?

Aug 05
2009

Am I the only one reading this stuff.  “I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!”

I got my newsletter from PoliceLink, which is sent to law enforcement officers and security people by subscription.  I noticed a link that said: “Obama Looks to Move Guantanamo Prisoners to Michigan.”  Naturally, I clicked it immediately.

I read and wondered if this could be true.  More hi-jinx from this new and unfathomable administration?  It’s beyond comprehension that this would even be considered.

I did a search on Google to check their sources, to find out if it was some link to an obscure article and I found out quickly that the story has spread like fire on the Blogoshpere.  It apparently has originated from well respected news media and definitely appears to be real in every way.

That is not to say it WILL happen, but it MIGHT!

Since I found it on PoliceLink, I think that they should get your attention and don’t forget, the hundreds of comments below the story aren’t from the “nutty guy down the street.”  The comments are coming from law enforcement officers.

Please click this link and read the story to see what’s being considered right now!
