M-Tech – Tactical Knives – Sports Knives

MTech-1221

MTech USA manufactures high quality folding knives at a fraction of the cost that some of the “big name brand” companies sell their knives for. You can pick up a superb, razor sharp MTech tactical folding knife for around a $12 – $15 range!  I have one sitting next to me right now and the bayonet style blade is exactly 4″ inches long.  It has beautifully polished hardwood grips.  It comes with a linerlock system that would make a $79 Cold Steel Ti Lite look small by comparison. It comes with a right handed thumb stud for one of a couple of methods of opening and it’s threaded, so you could convert it to left hand, if needed. It also has the same hilt as the Ti Lite which is notched, for opening the blade by using the “pocket drag” method. This method snags the hilt along the corner of your pant’s pocket for a lightning fast opening, from an inside the pocket, belt clipped carry. The MTech however, has nicely rounded edges on their hilts and won’t dig into your thumb when grasping the knife firmly in your hand.  It took me about 1/2 hour with a dremmel and finishing stone to round off the hilt on my Ti Lite to achieve the same amount of comfort.

MTech has some very nice folding sports knives as well for EDC (every day all-purpose) carry. Not one of them runs more than $15 and most are only around $12. They span a large range of “looks” and the blades vary in lengths depending on the model. There’s one that’s legal for pocket carry, no matter where you currently reside. They all have thumb-stud opening and are equipped with pocket clips for a super-easy carrying solution.

It’s funny about knives, sometimes you get what you pay for, sometimes you just pay for a brand name, but with MTech USA brand knives you always get a lot more than what you paid for. I highly recommend MTech folding knives for a look. I’ve purchased three in the past 6 months for comparison to other more high priced brand names. I have been pleasantly surprised by the MTech knives on all three occasions. They didn’t make a “ding” in my wallet which is always a nice experience!

As you’ve read my posts, many times I’ve relayed my opinion that pepper spray is the best self defense product you can have in your arsenal to stop attackers or slow them down long enough to make a retreat or a counter-attack.

It blinds the assailant and chokes them up instantly.  It works against aggressive animals as well! MSRP is $9.95 for this handy item and you can have it free with your order of $25 of any other products sold on the website.

Bear Pepper Sprays

Apr 21
2009

If you are going to visit or go out hiking and camping in country populated with Bear, you really NEED a canister of Guard Alaska Bear Spray. If you’ve read any of our previous articles on animal attacks, I’ve mentioned that the one item that individuals or trainers will use, that stops or deters animal aggression, is always Pepper Spray.

Guard Alaska  Bear Pepper Spray is proven by studies and endorsed as the only animal repellent that is effective against all species of Bears. Another effective bear deterrent spray from a trusted manufacturer is - Mace Brand Bear Spray.

bear spray

After watching nightly TV shows on the destructive power of a bear’s bite, it’s probably silly to live or camp in bear country without one of these very useful bear repellents.

You may not like or be able to legally carry a firearm, so these bear pepper sprays would be the logical choice.  Much like a firearm, these sprays can be deployed from a distance, before you’re actually mauled.  It makes sense to me!

Police Choose Mace!

Apr 15
2009

Just posting a quick note to let you know that SafetyEnforcement.com is offering a great product right now.  It’s on sale and I  recommend it a “must have” self defense product.

Cops use Mace to subdue the most violent criminals who won’t comply.  Why? Because it flat out works.  The results are immediate and will stop an attack before it get’s started.  Mace is tough stuff and has a proven track record in the field as the top gun in defense sprays.

Police Mace is on sale right now and for the price of lunch, you can arm yourself with this highly effective product. It has a blend of OC pepper, CN tear gas and a UV marking dye to assist the police in making a positive identification!

This Police Mace combo carries 18 grams – allows you 10 one second bursts and sprays up to 8 – 12 feet!  That’s the range of pocket guns or “belly guns.”

If you’re not convinced of the awesome stopping power of Mace, browse on over to YouTube and type in “Mace” or “Maced” and watch some people taking a blast of this stuff in the face and you’ll be convinced.  I wouldn’t mislead you on this one. It’s a superb self defense product, is non-lethal and stops aggression immediately

The Kahr PM9

Mar 17
2009

I just took ownership of the Kahr PM9 and it’s my first polymer frame pistol.  I have found it to be a sheer joy to carry and extremely accurate and fun to shoot.

Kahr PM9

My Kahr PM9 came packed in a heavy coating of “goop” from the factory.  After cleaning it thoroughly it was very challenging to reassemble.  It took several attempts, but I finally got it back together.  After firing the mandatory test rounds and performing the subsequent cleaning and lubrication, the reassembly took only a few minutes.

The sight picture is excellent and the double action only firing system was a pleasure and the trigger slack was taken up easily and then broke crisply without any effort at all.  Much lighter than any revolver I’ve ever owned or fired before and this eliminated the need for safeties which can slow one down in a crisis situation.

Well, I got my 200 break-in shots fired today.  Fired 135 rds and it got brutal towards the end, my hand was sore and my head felt like it had silly putty inside rather than a brain!  I used plugs and should have worn muffs.

I went to the gun shop and was unable to obtain the Speer Gold Dots.  He had a bunch of 147grn stuff, some 115 which may have been acceptable, but I opted for his three types of 124grn stuff – Remington Golden Saber (fired high and left, hard recoil), MagTech (soft recoil but high left also) and Federal Hydra-Shok (shot in the 3.5 inch bullseye, 4 of 5 rounds).

The first two brands were close enough to kill someone but the Hydra-Shoks were “between the eyes” tight.  All fired from between 30 – 35 feet.  Mostly 35 ft shots since an old brick smokehouse stands at the 30ft mark and by backing up, the muzzle blast was less deafening.

The 115 grn ball WWB is very accurate as well, but no expansion.  Home reloading for many years tells me that a 115 grn may lower the point of impact, since the bullet exits a micro-second before any muzzle rise can affect shot placement, so I’ll be trying some of those too.

No hitches at all, and I have surpassed my 200 rds and then some change to boot.  Only wear I see is a small smudge of rub on the top of the barrel (when looking directly down – on the barrel through the open top of the ejection port) right in front of the slide.  No peening just a small rub where the square top of the bbl,  narrows down, right at the bbl-meets-slide area.  That was normal, I was told by the gunsmith that owns the gun shop where I bought the bullets and not to worry about it.  Sounds right!

I’m going to clean that cannon and try to forget about it for a few days!  I don’t see how guys can rip off a couple of hundred rds with one at a time without getting their hands beat up a little bit.  My right hand was sore for awhile!

Telescopic Steel Batons

Telescopic Steel Baton

Need an edge in a self defense situation?  Are you looking for something a little nastier than a canister of pepper spray or a stun gun?  You might want to consider a telescopic steel baton.  These weapons are standard issue and carried by most police officers and trained private security guards.

What’s excellent about telescopic steel batons are that they collapse into their own handles, but with a flick of your wrist you can snap one open with the use of gravity.

Unlike more innocuous self defense products, these lightweight steel batons can be controlled by the user and be used for anything from simple compliance to a down and out  lethal weapon.  The force used and the target area selected are considerations of how much damage can be inflicted upon an assailant or a criminal perpetrator.

One little trick that I’d like to acquaint new users with, is the closure of these batons.  They lock into place when snapped open but when they need to be closed, you can give yourself a fit trying to drive one back onto the handle.  The key to closing one easily is to give the tip a short, sharp, rap – at a 45 degree angle.

Perform this against a hard surface to unlock the mechanism, then simply hold it upside down and drive it smartly downward in a vertical motion and the baton closes easily.  Try closing one without the angled tap of the baton’s tip and you’ll be in for one heck of a time trying to close one.  Cheers!

Accessorize Your Steel Baton

Jan 15
2009

There are many owners of telescopic steel batons.  They are lightweight and easy to carry since they telescope out for quick use and after giving them a tap on a hard surface, will retract back into the handle.

This makes for a small but very destructive self defense weapon. Being an extension of your own hand, one can easily employ one for use with relative ease.  Use the concept of a fly-swatter for instance, anyone can use one with pretty effective results right?

A steel baton is used exactly the same way – anyone can use one!  Now, there’s an end cap on these babies, that can be unscrewed and replaced by a high intensity LED flashlight tip which allows you to turn it on (like a mag-light) and get 6,000 hours of illumination with long life batteries that are included. You’ll have a marked advantage when investigating a sound or meeting an attacker with this hand accessory attached.

You can imagine the advantage of having a free hand and the other, which holds the baton in a striking position, shining a high intensity LED light right into the eyes of an attacker or home intruder. At under $10 a pop, this little attachment is a “no brainer” add-on if you already own or purchase a steel baton!

Door and Window Security

Dec 21
2008

Continuing on the theme of securing your home from burglars, I’d like to suggest another inexpensive yet effective alarm.  Called the Slide Away Alarm for windows, doors and sliding doors. This little beauty will not only frighten off burglars and draw attention to a break-in attempt, it will also alert you if you’re inside the home as well.

It protects by using magnetic affinity.  What this means is that a small actuator strip is mounted on the edge of the door, window or sliding door and the alarm unit is mounted on the frame, directly opposite from the strip.  They have a magnetic affinity to each other and when broken, the alarm unit on the door or window frame will sound an extremely loud 105 decibel alarm.  It  will not shut off unless you disarm it, making it very effective.

It is powered by three button cell lithium batteries (which are included) and has an arm / disarm switch which makes it very cost effective in both purchase and usage prices. The alarm is about 1.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches high.  The actuator strip is .5 inches wide and just over 2 inches high.  They come in black or white and can be mounted at any height that you choose, such as near the floor, standing level or near the top of the window or door.  They over-deliver for the small price tag!

Fool Burglars With A Diversion Safe

Dec 17
2008

As an addition to my previous post, I thought I’d add one of the cheapest and effective methods of thwarting burglars from making off with your most precious valuables.

A burglar wants to toss the dwelling and grab everything in plain sight and get out as quickly as possible.  You may not have the money for a sophisticated and securely installed safe, but anyone can afford a diversion safe.  These are safes that look and are weighted like common household goods.  Shaving cream, fruit cocktail, carpet cleaner and so on.

What an amazing way to thwart a burglar – hiding your cash, jewelry and other valuables amongst your common household canned goods!

You may have teens in the home and don’t want to leave your narcotic medication out where they or their friends might be tempted to swipe some.  We don’t want that.  Put them in your handy diversion safe.

The key to using these safes is secrecy.  If no one but you or perhaps your spouse knows about the diversion safe, the more effective it will be.  Try one out – you won’t be disappointed!
